Trusses CANNOT be fabricated with preservative treated lumber when end-use results in conditions exceeding 19% moisture content or where trusses with be subjected to direct wetting. Trusses are typically fabricated with untreated kiln-dried lumber having 19% or less moisture content. Where required by code, trusses can be fabricated with fire-retardant-treated lumber. This requires special engineering and a lengthy lead time due to the treating process.
Typical connector plates have a G60 galvanized coating. For special use condition G90, G185 or stainless steel connector plates are available. Stainless steel plates are commonly used in salt storage buildings, providing corrosion resistance.
Room sizes will vary depending on truss span, roof pitch and loading requirements. Typical residential truss for a “bonus room” will have a 12’ to 16’ wide room.
